SKITTLERS across North Devon have once again produced a whopping sum of cash for new equipment at North Devon District Hospital. The North Devon Skittles charitable trust donated £4,000 for vascular surgery equipment plus a further £5,000 to the Maternity and Gynaecology department for a new scanner. The trust raised money throughout the year from pub skittle teams across the district, through sponsorship, a knock out competition and a charity auction. This year at the Corner House in Barnstaple saw a double presentation after it became necessary to "skip" a year following administrative problems and a change to the way donations were accepted by healthcare trusts. The £4,000 donation will buy equipment to detect early clotting and vascular problems in patients. The £5,000 will now enable the hospital to finally buy a new portable bladder scanner to be used by both gynaecology and obstetrics.North Devon Skittles secretary and treasurer Mike Locke said since they formed the trust in 2000 it had raised £35,000 for equipment at the hospital. "We would like to thank everyone, for their continued support," he said.
