POLICE and building inspectors are investigating the cause of a gas explosion at a Bideford home.
The first floor and roof of the terraced property at Torridge Mount in East-the-Water was damaged after the explosion just after 7pm yesterday (Saturday) but no injuries have been reported.
Two Bideford fire crews were called to the scene at 7.13pm and put on breathing equipment whist they investigated the strong smell of gas coming from the home.
The immediate area was evacuated while the gas supply was isolated and a gas engineer called in. Investigations are now under way to discover how the leak occurred and what caused the fire ands explosion.
