THE gas emergency in Torrington is over and all those whose supplies were temporarily disconnected on Friday should have had a service restored by last night (Saturday). The emergency began when the main gas feed into the town was badly damaged during earthworks at Torrington Golf Club.Wales and West Utilities, which runs the gas network, sent out urgent messages for consumers to switch off their appliances. The all-clear came yesterday following overnight repairs which allowed sufficient pressure to return to the local network.A Wales and West Utilities spokesman said: "Repairs to the damaged gas main are now complete and temporary disconnections of gas supplies to properties in Torrington have ceased following a return of sufficient pressure to the local network."We are continuing to restore supplies as quickly as possible to those people who have already had their supplies temporarily disconnected and we anicipate that this will be completed by this evening."People who have followed our original request to switch off their gas are advised not to switch their supplies back on but instead call to arrange for one of our qualified engineers to call to carry this out. The number to call from 8am to 8pm is 0870 165 0597 or alternatively 0800 111 999."We regret the inconvenience, which resulted from third party damage to a gas main.
