A red Manitou forklift truck stolen from the Bideford area between last Thursday evening and Friday morning was used in a bank robbery at Hatherleigh early on Saturday morning.

A gang of men smashed a hole in the wall of the building in Bridge Street and took the cash machine, which might have contained up to a six-figure sum, according to the bank.

Three men wearing reflective clothing and possibly hard hats were seen leaving the scene.

Police are appealing for help. They particularly want to hear from anyone who saw the red forklift truck in the Bideford or Okehampton areas before the robbery.
