Rail passengers asked to get on board and submit designs for national park’s official flag.
PASSENGERS on the West Somerset Railway are being asked to help design the official flag for Exmoor today (Wednesday).
Organisers of a competition to create a dedicated flag for the national park will be handing out entry forms and asking people to sketch their ideas.
Julie Christian said: “We will be boarding the 12.30pm steam train out of Minehead today to promote the Exmoor Flag design competition.
“We will be working our way through the carriages talking to passengers about the amazing competition to design the official flag for Exmoor and how everyone has the chance to be part of making history.
“Whilst rolling through the stunning Exmoor countryside passengers can get inspired to sketch out their flag designs and pick up an entry form.
“The oldest entrant so far is an octogenarian gentleman from Minehead and the youngest a two-year-old girl from Brushford, so this just goes to prove anyone, any age and of any artistic ability can get involved.”
People have until Monday, July 21 to submit their ideas.
A shortlist of four designs will be put to a public vote in August and the winning Exmoor Flag, which will be registered with the Flag Institute, will be unveiled in a special ceremony in October.
