Rick Dean is walking from hospice-to-hospice to mark what would have been his son’s 20th birthday.
A Fremington father is walking 150 miles between two Children’s Hospice South West hospices in memory of his son.
Rick Dean sets off from Little Bridge House on Tuesday, walking to Little Harbour in St Austell and back again.
Rick is completing the challenge on what would have been his son Kierran’s 20th birthday. Kierran died aged six in 2003.
Rick said: “The hospice helped us so much following Kierran’s death that I wanted to give something back.
“The hospice has helped us through our darkest years. Families need a hub and for us, Little Bridge House was that hub.”
Rick is also completing the walk to celebrate CHSW’s 25th birthday this year.
CHSW chief executive, Eddie Farwell, said: ‘My hope is that in another 25 years Children’s Hospice South West will have expanded its services and is looking after even more children with life-limiting illnesses, and that the army of supporters who care so much for these children are there to sustain what we do.”
