Four people were rescued from the sea yesterday (Tuesday) after their speedboat capsized. Both Ilfracombe lifeboats were called out at 2.55pm after the 12-14 foot boat was spotted in difficulties between Widmouth Bay and Watermouth Harbour by a member of the public. The charter boat Jay Jay, with lifeboat volunteers Carl Perrin and Ben Bengey on board, heard about the accident and went in to pull four people from the water. The all weather lifeboat met them at Watermouth Harbour and took the casualties back to Ilfracombe. They were checked over by South Western Ambulance Service paramedics but did not need any treatment. The inshore lifeboat and HM Coastguard rescue helicopter 187 searched for the overturned boat, but it could not be found and is presumed to have sunk.
