Two former employees of Leaderflush Shaplan, which shut down in Barnstaple in 2012, have started up a brand new business.

Two former senior managers of a factory which shut down in Barnstaple in 2012 have employed 13 of their former colleagues at their new company.

Rob Llewellyn and Stan Bond, former employees of Leaderflush Shapland, set up Principal Doorsets from a 15,000 square foot building in Bideford.

The new 15-strong workforce has more than 300 years of door-making experience between them, and staff numbers are set to double by the end of the year.

Rob said: “There are many very skilled people still in this area and with the market growing it was the right time to use these skills and start up a business doing very similar to what the previous business did in the area.

“It would have been a real shame to have lost generations of skills in the area.”

Rob and Stan worked with NatWest relationship manager Stuart Passmore to secure borrowing to help with start-up costs.

Stuart said: “I am very proud to have played a part in getting them up and running and look forward to working closely with them in the coming months and years.”
