making a welcome return to Appledore Book Festival this year is award-winning writer and producer Adrian Mourby.

He was a BBC producer for 12 years where, amongst other things, he was responsible for the television adaptation of Kingsley Amis' The Old Devils and wrote two series of BBC Radio 4's comedy Whatever Happened To...?

He also wrote and produced The Archers for several years and will meet up again with June Spencer - who still plays Peggy Archer - who is appearing at the festival later in the same day as Adrian when she will have a chat show with Judi Spiers.

Adrian has published six books, including three novels, but he is probably better known as an opera buff, being international correspondent for Opera Now magazine and for being an enthusiastic globe trotter and regular contributor to The Independent on Sunday.

He has recently written the new AA guides to Venice and Brussels and contributed to Michelin's new guide to Singapore as well as the new Dorling & Kindersley Brussels and Bruges guide.

He will be wearing his travel writer's hat when appearing in the company of fellow travel writer Natasha Foges and James Smart, editor of Make the Most of Your Time on Earth, the new updated edition from Rough Guides. All three are contributors to this weighty tome and they will talk about the most demanding and rewarding journeys they have ever made and discuss whether it is best to make these trips alone or with another.

This promises to be a very entertaining programme and is at 11am on Saturday, October 2 in St. Mary's Hall.

Appledore Book Festival runs from Saturday, September 25 to Sunday, October 3 and tickets are available from the Box Office, Docton Court Gallery, Myrtle Street, Appledore tel: 01237 424 949 or from the website www.appledorebookfestival.co.uk. where full details of the Festival can be found.
