The Bideford shopping centre held its first flower festival with live demonstrations, photography workshops and more.

Atlantic Village welcome spring with its inaugural flower festival at the weekend, raising hundreds-of-pounds for charity.

Atlantic Flower Club members showcased their wonderful collections, as well as delighting crowds with live flower-arranging displays.

There were 24 exhibits in two class titles – ‘a pair of shoes’ and ‘three kitchen items’ – with arrangers creating displays with everything from cheese graters to Crocs.

Customers voted for their favourite arrangements, with Jean Smale winning the ‘a pair of shoes’ category, and Jill Russell winning ‘three kitchen items’.

Sandie Huxtable, chairman of the Atlantic Flower Club, said: “It was extremely successful, lots of people turned up and it went very well.”

Other highlights of the weekend included floral crown demonstrations from Church Park Flowers and free photography workshops by Instagrammer @flisstee.

There were also flower arranging demonstrations by members of Atlantic Flower Club; sugar-craft demos by Claire’s Sweet Temptations; free face and hand painting by Devon Face Painting; and free card workshops by The Works at Atlantic Village.

Jean Sharples, Atlantic Village centre manager, said: “It was such a great weekend, we loved having Atlantic Flower Club with us showing off our local talent and giving our customers the chance to get involved.”

Atlantic Village had collection pots throughout the event and collected more than £200 for local charity, Families in Grief.
