Flooding is fit for the birds

WATERFOWL have a field day in this scene taken from the New Bridge at Bishops Tawton near Barnstaple on Friday as the River Taw burst its banks following several days of heavy rain.

A stranded motorist had to be rescued by the fire service on Wednesday after driving through deep water at Dipper Mill Farm near Shebbear.

The Met Office in Exeter said the first two weeks of January had seen 80.2 millimetres of rainfall recorded at Chivenor weather station – already near the January of 91.9.

At Liscombe on Exmoor, near West Anstey, 40mm was recorded in one 24 hour period.
