Tantons Hotel in Bideford - which has stood vacant since a fire in 2011 - could be converted into eight flats.

Plans have been lodged to convert a former Bideford hotel into flats.

Tantons Hotel has stood vacant since a major fire in May 2011.

It was sold at auction last year, and now plans by Tanton One Ltd propose to convert it into eight flats.

A planning statement by Tanton One said: "The boarded up and deteriorating structure in a prominent location at the heart of Bideford is unattractive, an invitation to vandalism, dangerous, creates a feeling of wider neglect and a poor advertisement for the town and the attractions of the area."

It continued: "The purpose of the applications is to secure a productive and viable use for the site and buildings while retaining the important conservation related elements, improving the local environment and building on increased prosperity and confidence in the town."
