Five organisations in Holsworthy and the surrounding area have received cash boosts from their local county councillor to help them achieve their goals. Holsworthy Rural Councillor Des Shadrick has given the money from his County Committee budget, which enables councillors to support local projects with one-off grants.Holsworthy Winter Fair, which brings together the local farming community for a day of entertainment, trade stands, exhibitions and a produce and craft market every November, received £250 from Cllr Shadrick.A grant of £500 went to Sutcombe Under Fives group to buy resources such as musical instruments, books and toys. The group is an important networking and meeting place for parents in the small community of Sutcombe, as well as introducing children to the Primary School before they officially enrol.The Newton St Petrock Community Centre received an identical amount to fund solar powered lighting for its carpark, as did the Holsworthy St Peter's Fair towards the purchase of a stage for live music events. Bridgerule Parish Council has been given £500 towards producing of a Parish Plan to give an overview of the issues in the parish and ways to start resolving them.
