Devon County Council announced that both lanes of the Kenwith Viaduct will reopen today (Thursday)

Work on Bideford’s Kenwith Viaduct are a step closer to completion.

The bridge on the A39 has been operating with traffic lights, as works to repair a damaged joint got underway.

Devon County today (Thursday) confirmed that the first phase of work has been completed, with both lanes re-opening for the Christmas period. A 20mph speed restriction will remain.

Phase two of the work is due to start on Tuesday 3 January, when temporary two-way traffic lights will be reinstated and the 20mph restriction will continue.

The £250,000 scheme is replacing a damaged expansion joint at the Bideford end of the structure, which was found by county council engineers during a routine inspection in July.
