First of the carnivals takes to the road

PERHAPS because there has been such a lot going on recently, such as the Royal Wedding and elections, but there were fewer floats than usual in the Torrington Carnival procession on Saturday.

However, there were plenty of walking entries to swell the parade and keep the crowds happy.

Traditionally the first carnival on the North Devon circuit, the procession was led by the float carrying carnival queen Terri Adams and her attendants, Dani Evans and Connie Horn.

First place in the decorated float class went to the magnificent River God entered by the Davey family and friends. Second place was taken by Jeff Guppy’s On Safari and Marie Fisher’s Ice Warriors was third.

Trophy winners were: News of the World Cup, River God, Davey Family and Friends; Silver Jubilee Cup, Frogs’ Chorus, Little Frogs Pre-School; Mark Buckley Cup for adult walking entries, Monkey Magic, Bryan Pedlar; Bluecoat Cup, Walking with Dinosaurs, P Baker and K Davies; Rowland Cup, Peter Pan, Palmer Family.
