The Williams Butler Yates was floated at first light from Appledore Shipyard today (Thursday).

The third Irish naval vessel built at Appledore Shipyard was successfully floated at first light yesterday (Thursday).

The Williams Butler Yates is a 90-metre fast patrol vessel and will complete fitting out until June.

Harbour matser Roger Hoad said: “She floated as expected with no list and a good trim as per the naval architects expectations

“TDC Pilots aboard conducted the ship with two tugs - the Will Endeavour and the newly re-engined Lundy Puffin in calm conditions after yesterday’s gales.

“The now well practiced event went very smoothly, and the ship once again is a credit to the shipbuilders being in well advanced state of completion.

“Wind was a convenient North North East direction and light.”
