AFTER an outstanding 12 months of accolades, Ilfracombe Town Council has chosen its Citizen of the Year in recognition of 25 years of sterling service to St John Ambulance. At the Annual Town Meeting and making his last public presentation as Mayor, Councillor John Swan gave the honour to Sue Ayres, chosen from among all the Pride in Ilfracombe Award winners of the past mayoral year. But he said: "Our awards are not competitive. We are trying to encourage as many people as possible to get involved with the community and win recognition."The judging panel chose Sue because of her many years and "caring commitment" with the Ilfracombe division of St John and in particular her hard work training cadets, who have gone on to win titles at county, regional and national level."Her work has been inspirational and she has done a sterling job," said Cllr Swan.
