Firemen battle to prevent Brayford chemical blaze

Acetylene cylinders moved from workshop fire

FIREFIGHTERS are battling to prevent a chemical fire after flames engulfed a Brayford workshop earlier today (Thursday).

Crews from South Molton, Barnstaple, Braunton, Ilfracombe and Exeter are using water from a nearby pond to dowse the blaze that at one stage threatened to ignite acetylene cylinders.

Crews used a digger to move the cylinders, which were not involved in the fire, to a safe location while they continue to bring the fire under control.
