Firefighters tackle moorland fire

FIREFIGHTERS have been tackling a major gorse fire in the Barbrook area since early this morning (Monday)

Initially three appliances from Lynton and Combe Martin were sent to several reports of a fire on the moor involving an area of gorse. Access to the area was made difficult by lack of roads.

Crews were faced with fire on five fronts, covering an area of some two square miles and a further two appliances were called in from Porlock and Minehead.

A Supacat all-terrain vehicle from Porlock has also been in attendance to assist with access and beaters and a pump from Brendon have also been called in.

By mid-morning the incident was still ongoing, with five appliances in attendance and a specialist pinzegauer all-terrain vehicle from Somerset also assisting.
