Firefighters from Barnstaple, Hartland and Bideford were called into action for two separate incidents on Friday afternoon.

Firefighters from across North Devon were called out in two separate incidents yesterday (Friday).

The first incident was reported shortly before 2pm in Bellaire Drive, Barnstaple following reports of gas.

A specialist officer and two fire engines attended the address and reported a strong smell of gas from the property but no reading on the gas detector.

Crews ventilated the property and the gas was isolated.

The incident was left in the hands of the occupant and Wales and West.

In a separate incident, crews from Hartland and Bideford were called out to a garage fire.

Firefighters arrived at Eastdown Park, Hartland, shortly the call at 5.23pm and confirmed smoke issuing from the building.

They used two breathing apparatus and one hose reel jet to investigate and extinguish the fire.

A fire service spokesman said: “The cause of the fire was a small heater in the garage, causing an accidental ignition. Crews checked the garage with a thermal imaging camera, which suffered some fire, heat and smoke damage.”
