Fire fighters from South Molton and Barnstaple, as well as a water carrier and four-wheel-drive vehicle, were called to the moor near North Radworthy at around 6.35pm. Multiple 999 calls had come in reporting the fire and on arrival crews found themselves faced with three fire fronts. The length of the fire was thought to be around a mile-and-a-half. An off-road vehicle from Porlock also arrived at the scene to back up crews, and the specially adapted vehicles were used to fight the fire fronts. Crews also used manual beaters to put out the flames.
