Crews were called to the scene in the early hours this morning (Thurs) after receiving reports of a burning smell.

TWO fire engines were scrambled to a shop in Ilfracombe High Street this morning (Thurs) after a 999 caller reported they could smell burning.

The crews arrived at the building just after 4.40am to find the burning smell coming for the shop below the flat whose occupant called.

Fire fighters investigated using a thermal imaging camera and found the fire was in a domestic consumer unit.

The fire had gone out before their arrival and duty of care was left with Western Power, who also attended.
