Fire fighters to the rescue after terrier’s cliff tumble

Ilfracombe and Barnstaple crews come to the aid of small dog and its owner after seaside fall

ILFRACOMBE fire fighters came to the rescue of a small dog this morning (Thursday) that had fallen 20 feet down a steep bank at the cove car park in the town.

The fire service reported the small terrier had become stuck at the bottom of the drop amongst thick undergrowth overlooking the sea and the owner had managed to climb part of the way down to secure it.

On arriving just after 8am the Ilfracombe crew called for a second appliance from their station plus the specialist rescue team from Barnstaple.

They set up a system of ladders and ropes so that a fire fighter could be safely lowered down. The dog was placed in a bag and brought back up unharmed.
