A group of fire fighters will be walking for 24 hours in full fire kit and breathing apparatus around fire stations in North Devon. At 9am on June 4, a group will leave Okehampton fire station, stopping off at various stations throughout the route until arriving at 9am the following day at Lynton. They aim to complete a total of 83 miles in the relay walk - each wearing kit weighing roughly 30kg. During the walk fire fighters will visit North Tawton, Hatherleigh, Great Torrington, Bideford, Barnstaple, Braunton, Woolacombe, Ilfracombe, Combe Martin and finally ending at Lynton Fire Station. Ian Donovan, station chief at Okehampton fire station, wanted to support Childrens Hospice South West when hearing the charity is celebrating 25 years since its founding. He said: We have given money to the charity before, and with its 25th anniversary celebrations and my 40th year in service it seemed a good idea to commemorate both milestones. So far the Fire Fighters have raised more than £1,000.
