Fire fighters tackle barn blaze

Fire fighters work through the night to put out a barn blaze

Fire fighters from a wide area of North Devon were involved in tackling a barn fire at Little Torrington last night (Tuesday).

Three appliances, from Torrington and Bideford, were first on the scene, together with the water foam carrier from Barnstaple.

The barn, containing hay, silage and farm machinery was well alight and a second water bowser, from Exeter, was called for. Later, the Chulmleigh fire appliance was asked to attend to provide more manpower.

Steady progress was made in tackling the blaze and at 1am today (Wednesday) the incident was scaled down with just two appliances - from Appledore and Hatherleigh - being involved.
