FIREFIGHTERS spent more than six hours tackling a blaze that destroyed a disused Barnstaple warehouse late on Monday night.Six fire engines from Barnstaple, Braunton, Bideford, Ilfracombe, Appledore - and the aerial ladder platform and water carrier from Barnstaple - attended the scene after more than 30 calls were received by Devon Fire Control to report that the two-storey building in Mill Road was well alight. Fire gutted 90 per cent of the 20 by 50-metre warehouse was damaged. The reest was damaged by heat and smoke. Fire crews remained at the scene overnight.
