The vehicle, which was abandoned on a footpath in Barnstaple, was thought to be set on fire deliberately.

FIRE crews were scrambled to Whiddon Valley in the early hours of this morning (Mon) after several calls reporting a car on fire.

Fire fighters arrived in Westacott Meadow just after midnight to find the abandoned green Toyota hilux well alights on the footpath behind the properties.

They used breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire which completely destroyed the car.

Police also attended the incident, as the fire was believed to be caused deliberately.
