Members of the public invited to consultation taking place next week

People are being invited to find out more about proposals for the first of thousands of new homes being planned at Westacott, on the outskirts of Barnstaple.

Details about up to 153 homes being delivered at part of the so-called Westacott Urban Extension will be revealed at a public consultation on Wednesday.

Representatives from Progress Land will be on hand to answer questions at the Forches and Whiddon Valley Community Centre in Barton Road, from 2-8pm.

A spokesperson said: “Proposals will be on display which show the creation of a residential development on land around Westacott Grange and to the east of Westacott Road.

“Members of the project team will be available to answer questions.”

Previously, local people have raised concern at proposals to run a new access road through the Westacott Meadow play area – and site plans posted to residents this week appear to show the play area is still part of the masterplan.

The draft North Devon and Torridge Local Plan was amended to include an alternative access road in Castle Park Road.

In April, the Gazette reported that Tritech Precision Products factory was seeking to relocate from Castle Park Road to Roundswell, a move that would pave the way for a new access road.
