A colourful combination of artwork will be on show on the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, February 21 and 22 in Holsworthy with the Ruby Art Expo 2009.On Saturday and Sunday the Holsworthy Memorial Hall will be crammed with more than 270 works from 50-plus artists.By bringing together some of the finest contemporary art from Ruby Country and its surrounds, organisers hope to demonstrate just how rich, vibrant and varied the local art scene is."We have been overwhelmed with the amazing work that has been submitted for the show," said Tom Dixon, one of the organisers."We felt it was important to showcase just how many artists there here and how good their work is."The idea from a cultural event came from local councillor Des Shadrick, who has been directly supporting it. It is organised by the Ruby Country Initiative with the help of local artists, the Salar Gallery and the Little Gallery on the Farm. The weekend also features an exhibition of the work from the late James Ravilious, courtesy of Beaford Arts and a workshop for young people entitled Animated Worlds with artist Lucy Jackson, organised by the Plough Arts Centre. This will enable a small group to create their own animated film and some spaces still available. To find out more visit www.therubycountry.com or email ruby.country@devon.gov.uk.
