Public meeting next week for villagers worried about the effect more housing will have in the village

A new Braunton action group is calling for a halt to uncontrolled development before the village is lost forever.

Love Braunton is holding a public meeting on Wednesday (March 23) at the Vivian Moon Centre from 7pm, calling on anyone concerned about the way the village is developing to come along.

The catalyst has been the latest housing proposals, with Chichester Developments seeking to build 55 homes on a field at South Park.

Members of the Love Braunton group are concerned this and other potential developments will put too great a strain on the village's roads and services.

Work is already underway on the site of 150 new homes plus employment land at Chivenor Cross.

Love Braunton says local people should have more of a say in the future of their village and there should be better neighbourhood planning.

Group member Val Sadler said: "We are not against development, but it needs to be in the right place. We're concerned about the infrastructure of the village in general - Braunton is already clogged up with traffic."

Fellow member Sue Mills added: "We are doing this for future generations so we are not going to be a suburb of Barnstaple."
