Father-of-two helped by social enterprise to gain employment through volunteering.

A father-of-two has gained employment through working as a volunteer with Westward Property Services (WPS).

Ben Quick, 19, of Merton, is a qualified electrician with a sight disability and was working with WPS through social enterprise Pluss.

He needed hands-on experience and worked alongside resident electrician Dave Peters. Through this he gained a traineeship at contractor DS Electrical.

Ben said: “I am really grateful to WPS for setting up the opportunity for me to meet with DS Electrical. I can’t wait to start with them - my wife Susie is thrilled.”

Westward has been helping volunteers by working with employment agencies to provide voluntary opportunities for people in North Devon.

Paul Hester, WPS operations manager, said: “We are committed to the local area and jobs market and our ethos is of giving everyone a chance.

“All our volunteers gain hands on experience which is vital for when they apply for jobs.”
