FIREFIGHTERS from Holsworthy and Okehampton were called out yesterday (Friday) to help release a horse which had become stuck in a ditch.
The in-foal mare was discovered trapped upside down in an eight feet gully between a bank and a building at Northcombe, Germansweek.
The firefighters were joined in the three-hour operation by a specialist rescue team from Camels Head.
They were also assisted by a neighbouring farmer, who used a mechanical digger to dig away the bank before the horse could be released, using strops and lines.
