Council reject proposal over landscape concerns.

NORTH Devon Council has refused plans for a single wind turbine at a farm in Muddiford, near Barnstaple.

Proposals for the 79m-high 800kW generator at Honeywell Farm, together with the creation of an access track, temporary widening of the farm entrance and new access point to field, were turned down due to the impact on the landscape.

The council said the development’s height, design, the movement of the blades and its prominent position on an upland plateau represented an ‘incongruous manmade feature’, out of scale with and failing to preserve or enhance the natural beauty of the unspoilt landscape.

It added: “There will also be a major adverse impact from the turbine upon the residential amenities of the occupiers of a number of nearby dwellings. The economic benefits of the proposal do not outweigh this landscape detriment.”
