SHOPPERS found a little Fairtrade tea party madness at Ilfracombe Co-op yesterday (Tuesday).Alice, the Mad Hatter and the March Hare could be spotted enjoying a cuppa from a giant tea pot as the store marked the switching of all its own-brand tea to Fairtrade. It coincided with Fairtrade Fortnight (February 25 to March 9) which aims to highlight Fairtrade products, ensuring a better deal for growers in developing countries. The move will benefit growers in some of the poorest countries, including Malawi, now producing Fairtrade tea for the first time.Store manager Mike Chidley said: "We don't mind going a little mad if it helps to promote this 'tea-riffic' initiative and encourage many more shoppers to support Fairtrade."The Co-op is offering 20 per cent off all Fairtrade products from now until March 9.
