A quartet of artists have come up with eye catching designs to win the Ilfracombe Victorian Art competition and greet visitors to the town in the run-up to Victorian Celebration week.Organisers of the week-long festivities teamed up with the Gazette to invite painters, sketchers and doodlers to produce a masterpiece to promote the June event. The four winners' work will be turned into large signs that will be installed at the entrances to the town in the weeks before the Victorian Celebrations begin on June 9.The eight-years and under category was won by Isobel Newton; the over-eights went to Amy Powell; the over 14s to Alison Smale and the adult winner was Nicky Newman.Along with the satisfaction of seeing their work on public view to thousands of local people and visitors, each category winner received a set of art materials from the Gazette.Lin Harper of the Victorian committee said all the competition artwork would be on display at Ilfracombe Library and around the town during celebration week."There was a very good response and we'd particularly like to thank Ilfracombe Junior School, which sent us loads of entries, and the library which acted as a collection point.
