Exhibition will feature archaeological finds around South Molton

AN exhibition exploring archaeology is being staged at South Molton Museum from next week.Treasures of the Earth will run from May 21 until June 29.It will tell the story of archaeology in the South West and important local items, such as the Rose Ash Urn, will be on display.Other exhibits will include a mace head, a hammer stone, Roman pottery and iron slag.The exhibition will be supported by Exeter University, which will be telling the story of Exmoor Iron and how, 2,000 years ago, intense industrial activity took place on the edges of Exmoor. Radio carbon dating of charcoal from the slag heaps revealed late Iron Age and Roman dates.An activity day is being staged on Saturday of next week in the Assembly Rooms, South Molton, This will include storytelling, activity sheets, the identification of objects found, making flour, dressing up as a Roman and learning more about geology and archaeology.More information about the exhibition can be obtained from South Molton Library on (01769) 572951.
