NORTH Devon MP Nick Harvey has called for a "committed effort" to reduce the numbers of children living we'll below the poverty line.Showing his support for the Campaign to End Child Poverty, Mr Harvey was commenting in the same week as the Liberal Democrats released an own independent report into "social mobility" while the Government has also launched a White Paper on Social Mobility. "That your situation of birth and the income of your parents should still determine your life chances is a scandal," Mr Harvey said. "When they entered Government the Prime Minister pledged to reduce the numbers of children living in child poverty, yet 10 years on and we are no nearer to achieving that goal. "There should be fair and permanent tax cuts for family, more funding for schools - particularly for the most disadvantaged pupils - and a concerted and committed effort to help the 3.9 million children living below the poverty line realise their full potential.
