A barber from Bideford has been shortlisted for a national award – just six months after starting in the profession.
Carly Denny has made it to the regional finals of the 2018 L’Oréal Colour Trophy Men’s Image Award.
The 28-year-old, who is still studying at Petroc and works part-time at Elizabeth’s Lucifer in Bridgeland Street, will compete against 24 other selected finalists from the west of the UK at Cheltenham Racecourse on April 15.
If successful, she will represent the salon at the grand final in London on June 4.
Carly said she wasn’t expecting to progress in the competition after being nominated by salon owner Michelle Leson - who was a regional finalist two years ago.
“I thought there was no way I was going to get in, as the people entering have been doing it for years” said Carly.
“Then Michelle rang me to say I’ve got in – I didn’t think it was real.”
Michelle, who has mentored Carly since she started, said: “I’m so proud of her. It’s one of the biggest competitions you can enter for hairdressers, so for a little salon in Bideford it’s brilliant.”
