Police confirm one of three elderly women involved in a single-vehicle collision in Barnstaple on Saturday has died.

A 91-year-old woman has died following a single-vehicle collision in Barnstaple on Saturday night.

The front-seat passenger in the collision has been named as Margaret Pine, from Barnstaple.

Emergency services were called shortly after 10pm following the collision on the Old Bideford Road, near to Birch Lane, in Roundswell.

A Diahatsu Move car had been in collision with a brick wall at the end of Old Bideford Road in thick fog.

Three elderly women in the vehicle sustained serious injuries and were all taken to North Devon District Hospital.

Mrs Pine sustained multiple injuries and died in hospital in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday).

The other two women, aged 76 and 85, remain in hospital. All three were from Barnstaple.

Police from the serious collision investigation team are appealing for witnesses to this incident and asking for anyone who saw the vehicle travelling prior to the collision to contact them via 101@dc.police.uk or by telephone on 101, quoting log 948 of 17/12/2016.
