Emergency services were called to the scene at 10.55am

An elderly man has been airlifted to Derriford Hospital with ‘serious, possibly life-threatening injuries’ after a collision on the A39.

Emergency services are currently at the scene of the crash involving a tractor and a motorcycle at Welcombe Cross near Bideford.

The A39 is closed in both directions, with diversions in place via Holsworthy.

Police were notified at 10.55am to the serious collision, when the man was reportedly trapped.

Fire appliances from Hartland and Bude and a heavy rescue unit from Middlemoor were deployed.

Crews assisted ambulance crews with the casualty underneath the trailer of the tractor, while the tractor was driven forward to allow paramedics and fire crews access.

Fire services then assisted ambulance crews with casualty care and scene safety.
