Elderly man rescued from Barnstaple fire

Fire fighters were called to the property at around 8.40pm yesterday (Monday).

FIRE FIGHTERS rescued an elderly man from a property in Barnstaple yesterday evening (Mon) after a fire broke out.

Two fire engines from Barnstaple were called to the single storey building in Chanters Hill at around 8.40pm after receiving reports of smoke issuing from the property.

The man was rescued by fire fighters and taken to hospital by ambulance.

Crews used two breathing apparatus with a hose reel jet and covering jet to extinguish the blaze.

The British Red Cross (FESS) Fire and Emergency Support Service also attended the scene to assist the family members.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
