STRENGTHENING work on the retaining wall supporting part of the South West Coast Path at Ilfracombe is on schedule to be completed by Easter, if the mild weather continues. The final section of the parapet wall at Capstone Hill is currently under construction and once finished, scaffolding will be removed. The scheme will then be completed with the resurfacing of the path and installation of lamps. Geoff Fowler, Devon County Councillor for Ilfracombe, visited the site. He said: "Although in a very exposed seaward position and through the worst part of the winter, the contractors have done an excellent job, both in engineering terms and by keeping to a scheduled timetable. To have this part of the South West footpath and important local amenity re-opened before Easter is a real bonus for the community."The project, which is part of Devon County Council's Bridge Assessment and Strengthening capital programme, started in September
