A small earthquake was recorded between Mariansleigh and Rose Ash, approximately 6 km South East of the town.

The quake, which took place at 9.44pm, occurred at a depth of 12.4 km and measured 1.4 on the Richter scale.

According to researchers at the British Geological Survey, between 150 and 200 earthquakes are detected and located in the UK and surrounding waters each year.
