The road between Bideford and Torrington has been closed since January to repair the retaining wall.
The A386 has reopened a week ahead of schedule after being closed for structural repairs.
The road between Bideford and Torrington has been closed since January 7 to repair the retaining wall.
It reopened yesterday (Thursday).
Structural stress had resulted in major depressions and cracking in the road.
Contractors had predicted that the first stage of the work, which required the road being closed, would take ten weeks and be completed on March 18.
However the work was completed a week early and reopened to traffic lights yesterday, March 9.
Councillor Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council’s cabinet member for highways management said: “I am delighted that the road has been reopened earlier than excepted.
“The road is now under traffic lights which are due to be in for five-to-six weeks while they complete the masonry walling and earth works.
“However this is weather dependant.”
