SIR - With regard to the so called "junction of death," if drivers observed the 40-mile-an-hour speed limit on approach, drivers crossing didn't try to beat the oncoming traffic and drivers coming from Westleigh to Barnstaple filtered onto the Link Road instead of stopping, there would be no problem.
In other words, it's the drivers and not the road that is the problem. I am 77 years of age and I don't find the junction at all confusing but if, like some of your correspondents, I was "frightened of the junction" then I would stop driving.
