Volunteers rolled up their sleeves and helped clean up Westward Ho! beach.

Dozens of volunteers rolled up their sleeves at Westward Ho! to take part in a beach clean.

The event was organised as part of the Clean Marine beach clean project by Natalie Gibb of North Devon Coast AONB and was supported by Bideford Tesco community champion Sallie McKay-Roper.

Among those taking part was Torridge District Council leader Jane Whittaker, who said: “The great thing about my recent experience was that after several hours we had gathered nowhere near the amount of rubbish we had collected in the past.

“I later learnt more detail about the initiatives being organised by North Devon Coast AONB and their Marine beach clean project.

“As a result there have been many more beach cleans with local volunteers conducted this year and, as we saw today, its amazing what a difference these have made.”
