Police warning after officers were forced to break a car window in Ilfracombe and remove dogs in hot weather.

Police in North Devon are reminding people not to leave dogs in car during the hot weather.

Braunton Police said they had received a lot of calls of this nature in recent weeks.

A spokesman said: "Our colleagues in Ilfracombe were called to a car park following concerns raised by members of the public regarding two distressed dogs in a car.

"Officers gained access to the vehicle by breaking a window and the dogs were removed.

"Dogs die in hot cars, if required we will take necessary action to ensure their welfare, anyone causing a dog to suffer can face prosecution."
