Dog lovers in North Devon are being encouraged to put their best paws forward for a new event on the Dogs Trust doggy calendar.
Dogs Trust Ilfracombe is joining with South West Lakes Trust to hold the first ever ‘waggy walk and talk’ around part of Wimbleball Lake on Sunday, April 8.
The aim of the event is to highlight the beautiful countryside around the Exmoor lake, as well as make new friends and promote the importance of responsible dog ownership.
Amy Bingham, Dogs Trust Ilfracombe supporter relations officer, said: “We wanted to bring dog lovers together, where they and their four-legged companions can enjoy the event and make new friends – and what better place than beautiful Wimbeball Lake?
“We hope it is an opportunity for people to talk to each other along the way, find out about the countryside around the lake and find out more about Dogs Trust.”
South West Lakes Trust Countryside Warden for Exmoor, Dan Hooper, added: “We love to see a variety of people visit our beautiful lake - and walkers and their dogs are a big part of that.
“As part of the event, we will be giving a guided talk from the café area to the dam and back, pointing out our special flora and fauna along the route, as well as highlighting how we manage the site.
“The walk is suitable for wheelchair users and pushchair users and will take about one to two hours – so we hope as many people as possible will be able to join us.”
The walk will start at 10am by the Activity Centre and costs £4 per person (under 16s and dogs free), with all money raised from the entrance being split between the two Trusts.
There will also be an opportunity to buy Dogs Trust goodies, as well as pick up information about the charity and that of South West Lakes Trust.
Advanced booking for this event is advised. Walkers can also turn up and pay on the day (subject to availability) and are asked to arrive half an hour earlier to help with registration.
Limited parking is free for participants at the Activity Centre car park, on a first-come, first-served basis. (For sat nav, please use TA22 9NU.)
