NINE additional police were called to Combe Martin beach last night (Wednesday) after a disturbance broke out following the carnival.A spokesperson said the officers arrived just after 10pm and added: "It was clear once they got there that it was quite rowdy, with 700 revellers on the beach.""Things had started to calm down just before 11, with the main trouble makers removed from the scene and people were being moved off the beach. By 11.15pm the additional officers had left."A spokesperson for South Western Ambulance Service said they had only had one call to the Combe Martin seaside area.Two ambulance crews were sent and found a female who had been assaulted, suffering from a head injury, but she was reported as conscious and breathing. One vehicle took her to North Devon District Hospital.It unknown whether the two incidents are related.
