Police investigate whether someone took the law into their own hands after objecting to holidaymaker’s parking

Disgruntled residents could be responsible after a tourist’s car had its windscreen smashed at Cheyne in Ilfracombe, police have said.

The VW Golf was damaged overnight on June 3-4 after it was parked without a permit. Inspector Roger Bartlett said one line of enquiry was someone had objected to this and broken the screen.

“If that is the case, it’s extremely disappointing they have taken the law into their own hands,” he said.

“The holiday industry is vital to the town and this holidaymaker is not likely to come back.”
